Festive Left Friday Blogging: Another gratuitous Hugo Chavez pic

I just thought I'd run this up the flagpole and see who saluted...

Hugo Chavez salutes YOU!

Chavez, not 'beautiful' by western yuppie standards, really has this vivaciousness, especially when he smiles. A genuine warm, inner confidence.

He is a very unique individual and one of the few politicians that I even have a modicum of respect for. This is why the rightwing hates him so much, I guess.

Yeah, me too. That's why I love shots like this...he's got a great personality, and it comes through. Especially in his smile (which I REALLY love.)

Hands down, my favorite scene in "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" is the one where he talks about his great-grandfather. It's definitely the most revealing. He's not belting out a speech to a roaring crowd there, but rather telling of how he ferreted out the mystery of a misunderstood ancestor. And even though he's very quiet, he's absolutely irresistible there. You'd have to be a crazy fanatic to hate him. Especially when he recites that poem that was written about the grandfather; his whole face just lights up. He's not stage-managed, image-consulted or scripted. And he doesn't have to be.

The yuppies can keep their "perfect" pod people. They are BORING! I'd rather watch Chavez. He's actually WORTH watching.
