Festive Left Friday Blogging: Chavecito in Brazil

Hugo Chavez, medalist!

Score one more award for Chavecito: the Tiradentes Medal.

When he wasn't busy receiving awards for humanitarian service to the cause of democracy, or in a tete-a-tete with his good friend Lula...

...or bestowing a little tenderness on local youngsters...

...Chavecito had this to say about a local right-wing paper that bad-mouthed him:

"O Globo, O, O, O..."

O, what a hoot!

First time I've been here. Followed this link from Sabina Becker's post on Powers&Morrison. I would really like to learn what is happening with Chavez in Venezuela.

I cheer every time he flips the bird at Bush. However, I can't tell if what's being reported is bs or truth.

I do speak Spanish and would love to be directed to some great news sites and forums.

Thanks.

Hey, welcome...pull up a chair!

I find that http://www.aporrea.org is a good site for news on Venezuela, lots of commentary there too. There are also some nice blogs: http://carlchucho.blogspot.com and http://lubrio.blogspot.com are my faves. There's also http://www.losblogueros.net which is a good site for Spanish-language news from all over the world.

For good stuff in English, there's http://oilwars.blogspot.com and http://www.venezuelanalysis.com (which also has links to other good news sites.)

I wouldn't put too much faith in any mainstream US or Venezuelan site, though--they are run by wingnuts and smell like it, too. (You can usually tell when they start making ominous comparisons of Chavez to Castro; it's a dead giveaway.)

Anyhow, I hope this helps!
