Festive Left Friday Blogging: What the world needs now...

...is love, sweet love...

Since that seems to be in short supply, though, I'll settle for a pic of Evo, yummy Evo:

...who has left no doubt where he stands on the mid-east peace issue. That's why we love him...

And speaking of love, Beirut has named a street in Chavecito's honor. For some reason, Latin leaders who take principled stances are very popular in the Middle East.

Bina, now the UN relief and the Red Cross have virtually stopped their truncated activities in Gaza because of IDF attacks.

The is barbarity squared.

And the corporate US media keep referring to Israel's actions as being rooted in 'defense'. This is such a lie, given that this is just an extension of the constant immiseration of the Palestinian people

This is on par with the group of lies and distortions that framed the US invasion of Iraq as 'defense' of the US--or for 'democracy' and human rights.

The intellectuals that play along and give creedence to these distortions are on the same ethical level of all intellectuals in the service of colonialism and genocide.

Chavez and Evo really are much more democratically inclined than are the usual apologists for imperial terror in the Americas. And that is why they will always be hated.

Does anyone actually believe that an Obama administration will stop attacking independent/democratic nationalist movements that threaten US corporate or international capitalist interests? Obama's administration might be less barbaric than Bush--maybe. But the 'might makes right', undemocratic mentality is so deeply inscribed into the US elite worldview--so much so that I doubt we will see significant change without a generalized social/economic breakdown inside the US.

Those nations on the receiving end of colonialist oppression have to organize to change the way power is configured in the UN. A proportional representation of nations given power through a world body will be a necessity for human survival.

The quickening ecological collapse and the probability that nuclear terror will be unleashed at some point in the near future should be the impetus for more enlightened reform.

It will get much worse before it ever gets better.

It's like the sign behind him says...El Pueblo es Noticia. The people are the news. It's the people who keep throwing a monkey wrench at it for the crapitalists. Oh, if it weren't for all the pesky, pesky people...and if it weren't for leaders like Evo, who follow the people...

For those of you based in the Montreal area, I hope you join me in protesting Israel's crimes tomorrow:

Thanks, Nolan. I'm in Southern Ontario myself, but consider the message passed along anyhow!
